June Devotional
The Magnifying Glass of Praise!
I remember when I was just a little girl and I would
dig my father's old magnifying glass out of the junk
drawer in his desk. I remember the thrill, on a hot
summer's afternoon, of using that magnifying glass
in great wonder as I inspected blades of grass, the
middle of flowers, the creases on a worm's body and
even a bug or two!!
The object that I was studying would become gigantic
in size and I was able to intricately observe the
details of this small piece of creation under the
miraculous lens. When using the magnifying glass,
I could suddenly see magnificent facets that were
hidden to my ten year old eyes.
When I pulled the magnifying glass away from the object
of interest, the bug or flower or blade of grass became
common in size once again. You see, I was not changing
the size of the object by using the magnifying glass,
I was simply changing my perspective.
"Magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His
name together!" commands Psalm 34:3. It is time
to take out the magnifying glass of praise and worship
and to change your perspective of Who God is! When
we praise the Lord, we are magnifying Him with our
spiritual eyes. We do not have the power to make Him
any greater than He already is ... but we do have
the power to change our perspective of His greatness!
It is truly a miraculous point of view!
When you worship the Lord, you will be able to observe
facets of His character that you are not able to see
when you are whining or complaining or embracing depression.
When we choose to sing a song of praise ... or breathe
a prayer of thanksgiving ... suddenly the God of the
Universe fills the lens of our spiritual view and
we are in awe of His greatness!
I hope that you will spend some time during this first
month of summer enjoying God's creation ... I also
hope that you will remember to find the magnifying
glass of praise and change your perspective of Who
God is! You will be captured by His wonder and His
power when you choose to magnify the Lord! |
