When you have been touched by the
joy of the Lord - something happens in your soul!
Joy makes you want to sing ... to dance ... to laugh
... to shout! Our response to joy is not an emotional
celebration - our response to joy is called "worship".
When my three youngest children were still very small,
we were running errands one steamy July afternoon
in North Carolina. Our 12 passenger Ram van was a
gas guzzler ... filled with toys, melted crayons and
cracker crumbs. This gargantuan vehicle had clocked
over 100,000 miles .... with no air conditioning. The
children were hot and tired and yet I was doing my
best to be a joyful mom!
Jordan, at six years old, was begging for a well-deserved
drink but I had no money for such an extravagant treat.
So, as any good mother would do, I tried to divert
my lively son. "So," I said in a funny voice, "Do
you want to whet your whistle?"
"What does whet your whistle mean, Mama?" responded
my curious little man.
"Well, your whistle comes from your tongue - so
if you need to whet your whistle - it just means that
your tongue is dry and needs a drink," I answered.
"If your whistle comes from your tongue, where does
your voice come from?" asked the perpetually inquisitive
future Einstein!
"Ah! Now that's a little harder," I replied weakly.
"It has something to do with your voice box in your
throat and muscles and air blowing across those muscles."
Joy, my three year old, could wait no longer for
her innocent question. "If your whistle comes from
your tongue .... And your voice comes from your throat
... where does the song in your heart come from?" she
naively and sweetly asked.
"Everybody knows the answer to that!" Jordan instantly
responded. "The song in your heart comes from Jesus!"
Have you discovered the secret that my children
taught me ? When you know Jesus - there is a never
ending song in your heart. I think that it is time
to start singing from deep within your soul. Allow
His joy to come bubbling to the surface of your life
in a pure and lovely song of heartfelt praise!
