August Devotional
Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from
birth. His disciples asked, "Rabbi, who sinned?
This man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?"
Jesus said, "You are asking the wrong question.
You're looking for someone to blame. There is no such
cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do!"
John 9: 1-3, The Message Bible
We all have situations in our lives that we do not
like, would not choose and certainly do not understand!
What situation in your life causes you to ask the
question, "Why God?"
"Why do I have to go through this?"
"Why can't my life be different?"
Perhaps it is infertility ... or a rebellious child
... or a meager checkbook. Maybe your source of unanswered
questions is a divorce that you didn't want ... or
the early death of your spouse ... or a chronic illness.
Let me suggest to you today that perhaps the reason
that your heaven-tossed question has not been answered
is because you are asking God the wrong questions.
Instead of being tormented by the "Why's"
of life ... let's instead ask the "How"
questions.
"How can I reveal the glory of God in this situation?"
"How will God move in a miraculous
way?"
"How can I ever thank Him enough for His faithfulness
and His kindness?"
When we get our eyes off of our pain and fix them
on His promises, suddenly things don't look as bad
as they used to. When I realize that every sadness
and each pain of my earthbound existence is an opportunity
for His glory to be revealed ... why ... I could just
shout! I am determined to go through life not focusing
on my grieving but on His glory! When I choose to
ask "How?" rather than "Why?"
... I might just be opening the door for a miracle
or two! And that is certainly something to rejoice
about!
